Galeana Mexico Mission Trip

What an awesome time last week! We were joined by among others, three of our four sons, Jack (far right), Colin, (2nd from right), and Addison (center)on our first trip to minister in Mexico among remote farming villages around the Galeana area. It is about 2 1/2 hours south of Monterrey and is nestled in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Range. At first glance as you go deep into the range you are impressed with the vast ‘nothingness’ as one of our fellow travelers put it. Yet here in the midst of nothing are small farming villages eaking out a meager existence far from any civilization. Dirt farmers who, take advantage of the sparse rainfall that amounts to about only 15″ annually, grow a tiny variety of corn (think 4″-5″ ears) for their goats, donkeys, chickens and themselves. We were so richly blessed during our short visit and have all agreed that we will definitely be back next January.

Our team had two physicians and two dentists who saw patients for various maladies and distributed medicines. We also had a photo workshop where the villagers had their pictures taken and put in a folder for them to keep. Many had never had their picture ever taken and this was a special treat for them. Another area with the help of several wonderful Baylor athletes and family kids on the trip did soccer, basketball, and frisbee with the children, to help occupy them while their parents were receiving treatment. Then there was VBS and the Jesus film shown in Spanish.

Six days filled with travelling, ministering, and fellowship in sharing the love of Christ. I am so pleased to have been a small part of the group and hope that if you ever get the opportunity to share your heart with others that you will do so freely and without reservation.
