Eastern Blooms Bookmarks

We had such a delightful time Saturday at the Stamp-a-Stack, I just wanted to share a peek at the basket of Rose Red chipboard bookmarks that I made up. I was lucky to have enough for everyone to have one as a special little something extra! I’m sorry if you missed it, but I hope maybe you can come next time! bookmark-closeup

These were made with the chipboard scallop square, Eastern Blooms Stamp Set, Rose Red Craft Ink, 1″ Double Stitched Rose Red Grosgrain Ribbon, and the Large Rhinestone Brads.

I added a folded Top Note using the SIZZIX BIG SHOT and the Rose Red paper from one of the 6 x 6 Designer Paper Pads.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!

2009-larrys-valentine
I love to use my scraps for things, it makes me feel like I’m really being thrifty. I found this scrap of Designer Series Paper and it teamed quite nicely with the Baja Breeze so I used it for my sweet hubby’s Valentine Card this morning while he was out running. (Yes, he does that, it’s almost like a religion with him…he usually does 13-15 miles twice a week and participates in numerous half-marathons around central Texas throughout the cooler months. I play the support vehicle by dropping off water and whatever snack he wants at different mile markers along the way, you see if I were also running, who’d be doing that?? Lucky for him I don’t run!)

Anyway, the Riding Hood red pattern is the other side of the DSP and I used a piece of our beautiful White Taffeta ribbon for contrast. The heart image is from the Priceless Stamp Set (#115052 $28.95 pg 121 ‘09 Spring-Summer Idea Book & Catalog) stamped in Riding Hood Red Classic Ink and backed with a scrap of Riding Hood Red Card Stock then Baja Breeze Card Stock. The last design element to be added was the Large Photo Corner with the silver brads. 2009-larrys-valentine-gree

I couldn’t find a verse for the inside that expressed exactly what I wanted to tell him so I put together this fun computer-age type of verse and it worked out well, because his face had one of those great ear-to-ear grins and elicited a chuckle from him. Mission accomplished!

After 28 wonderful years of marriage it’s always nice to know you can still surprise each other from time to time.

I hope your Valentine’s Day is filled with sweet thoughts and kindness for your loved ones. Have a great weekend! Katherine

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIE!

2009-sampler-girl-valentine1I finished this lovely Sampler Girl piece called Valentine Cupboard just in time to slip it in the post to my sweet sister. She has the fortune of being a Valentines Day baby and as such it has always been a special holiday for my family. I found some wonderful English Lavender Potpourri to stuff it with and used a Prairie Print fabric for backing. It is stitched on 30 ct Irish Linen over 2 using standard DMC floss.

Stolen Heart Layout

With Valentine’s Day this month here’s a fabulous layout that reflects the holiday in non-traditional colors. It features Stampin’Up!’s In Color Baja Breeze teamed with the Kiwi Kiss and uses Pink Pirouette and Chocolate Chip for highlights. This layout also showcases Stampin’ UP!’s fantastic Large Heart Punch. If you’ve not used Stampin’ UP!’s wonderful punches you’re really missing out! They are the easiest and sharpest punches on the market, while many copy cats have come along they’ve been way ahead of the market.

It’s impractical for me to purchase 10 sets of chipboard alphabets for my Scrapper’s 10 Club, so I try to help them think out of the box by coming up with alternatives and I think that the Big Deal Alphabet Set used here in the title is an acceptable and attractive alternative. 2009-february-club-heart-de2We first stamped the letters using the Baja Breeze Classic Ink and over stamped that with the dotted image from the Itty Bitty Backgrounds Stamp Set using Chocolate Chip Classic Ink to add interest.
The column of five hearts uses Baja Breeze dyed White Taffeta Ribbon, Chocolate Chip Taffeta Ribbon, a Clear Button, Faux Stitching, and the Small Dotted Texturz Plate for the SIZZIX BIG SHOT.
