Family Ties

As some of you may know and as news to others, my family lives in the Midwest (where I was born and lived the first 30 years of my life) while I reside in the wonderful state of TEXAS!! Yet my family is with me, ever present in mementos around my home.  So that, while we are parted by years and miles, I think of different family members almost on a daily basis.  The placement of  small items that bring different people to mind, whether friends or family, is a wonderful way to keep them in mind and to offer those unspoken prayers of protection and blessing on them throughout the day, week or whenever.

One such treasure that I have was a gift from my sister more years ago than I can even remember.  She had a Homespun Christmas that year and made all of the Christmas ornaments for her tree and sent me several extras for my tree.  That way we could think of each other on Christmas even though we couldn’t spend the holiday together.

Jennie's-Heart

There are several others packed away with Christmas decorations but I have kept this lovely single heart on my linen closet knob in our master bathroom. Every day, every time I am either at my vanity or in the shower or reaching for a clean towel, or just passing by,  I think of my sister Jennie and say a teeny prayer of thanks for the wonderful thoughtful person that she is.

It has been too many years since I have been back to the Midwest for a visit and I guess there’s a bit of homesickness setting in.  Life with growing teenagers and young adult men is hectic for sure and investing myself in their lives is what is top priority at this time.  But, it brings a smile to my heart to know that she’s thinking of me too!

Summer is quickly going by and I hope you spend time with your family and loved ones while the sun is high in the sky and the days are long.

Blessings on your week!

Katherine

GRrreat BIG Birthday Card!

brandon2-cake-card-front

While our son Jack was home from Spartanburg, SC over the 4th we also celebrated not only HIS birthday but our son Brandon’s birthday is on July 2nd!  So we celebrated them together and had a wonderful evening.  The only thing about celebrating two birthday’s at the same time when you’re doing handmade cards is that one can’t out-do the other.  So I got to do another SIZZIX Pop-UP card which turned out grrreat!

Birthday Cake Card

Time to do a little housekeepping and get ya’ll caught up! I simply can’t believe July is nearly half over and I’ve been so out-of-pocket the last two weeks it’s awful, but here goes…

brandon-cake-card-front

June 14 is (or rather was) our son Jack’s birthday and to celebrate I made him a Birthday Cake. (We didn’t get to have our ‘Family Birthday Dinner’ until he came to visit over the 4th but that’s OK too!). I thought he’d like this colorful birthday cake because he has such a colorful personality. I’d gotten the SIZZIX Pop-Up Die for the Cake and have been wanting to try it out so it was a great opportunity to play with something new!

It went together quite well, I found the directions provided by SIZZIX to be very helpful and was surprised that it wasn’t as hard as I’d thought it would be!

Card Stock:  YoYo Yellow, Retired In-Color Textured Card Stock Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss, Real Red and Only Orange

Stampin’ Write Markers:  Green Galore, Cameo Coral, Real Red, and Tempting Turquoise.

Embellishments:  Green Galore Brads, Dazzling Diamonds, Sticky Strip double sided extra-sticky strip adhesive, and Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Hope your summer is going smoothly and you are enjoying this wonderful change of season….pant, pant, pant!

In case you didn’t know it, Texas is breaking records for 100+ days of heat and I hope it’s about to come to an abrupt halt…the last time we had a heat pattern like this was my first trip to Texas for my Brother & Sister-in-Law’s wedding, and it wasn’t enough to discourage my decision to marry a Texan then or stay now!  It would be a welcome sight though to have an early and cool Fall, well it is wishful thinking but we can always hope right?

Stay cool!  Katherine
