Autumn Splendor

This is the other Thank You card I created for my sweet hubby to use with a small token of appreciation that he is sending out to his Top 20 Referral doc’s.  As you can see both the Gratitude Pumpkin card and this are quite different, yet both are very appropriate for their specified use.  I have made ten of each and will let the staff choose which one to use for which referring dentist.

2009-10-25-Autumn--TY

I love Fall and all the beautiful rich colors that it brings with it, but when I saw the Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper in the HOLIDAY MINI CATALOG, it was such a fresh take on the traditional Fall colors by adding the Taken with Teal highlights, it instantly became a favorite of mine that I have reached for over and over.  If you haven’t gotten your hands on a pack, I’d be happy to send you one, just let me know!

Card Recipe:

Stamp Sets:  Autumn Splendor,  Sincere Salutations
Card Stock:  Kraft, Very Vanilla, Not Quite Navy, Chocolate Chip, Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper
Ink: Bordering Blue, Close to Cocoa, and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink
Ribbon: 1/4″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain
Punches: 1 1/4″ & 1 3/8″ Square
Stampin’ Dimensionals were used to elevate the three squares.

I used a Rockin” Dauber technique on this card to create the beautiful color changes on the large oak leaf stamp. You first pick up color from the Bordering Blue Classic Stampin’ Ink Pad all over the image, then using a finger dauber you rock around the edges with the Pumpkin Pie Classic Stampin’ Ink and a using a separate dauber add the Close to Cocoa Ink touches. Simply stamp your image on a piece of the Very Vanilla Card Stock and cut out using your paper snips. This leaf is such a great 3-D embellishment because the edges will ‘naturally’ curl as you cut it out and it just needs a bit of adhesive in the middle.

One more thing…you might notice how well the Not Quite Navy Card Stock compliments the Taken with Teal highlights in the Autumn Meadow Designer Series Paper. This is very pleasing to the eye because they are in the same Stampin’ UP! color family. Choosing colors for your projects is quick and simple when working with the same color family. It saves you time and takes the guess work out of the equation!

Thanks for stopping by this rainy morning here in Central Texas, I hope your week is off to a grand start and you find time to share your paper crafting talents with friends and family.

Have a great week!
Katherine

Grateful Pumpkins!

Happy Monday!

Over the weekend my sweet hubby asked me to create some thank you cards for his referring dentists and here’s the first of two that I quickly put together:

2009-Punpkin-Patch

I created it using Stampin’ UP!’s My Digital Studio. I have to take a minute to brag a little bit here because this digital creativity suite is fabulously easy and so amazingly user friendly it’s totally awesome to work with! Using one of the designer templates, I swapped pumpkins for heart swatches, changed colors, and greeting text, gave it a Pumpkin Pie shadow and sent it to my HP 2500 Ink-jet printer for a dozen card fronts in a flash.

I prefer a 3-D dimension to my creations so I tied a piece of 1/4″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon to the card front and mounted it on a standard 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ Pumpkin Pie tent-fold card and it’s ready to go!

COTTAGE UPDATE!

Things are really humming out at My Bluebonnet Cottage.

Humming…literally, thanks to WINDSTREAM! After a couple of miscues with the installer, I finally connected with the nice gentleman who was going to do the installation and everything went smoothly. The installation of the internet connection is complete. YEAH!!

Now when you book your stay for My Bluebonnet Cottage you will be able to access the web for all those inspirational sights that scrappers just love to browse.

We’ve had two wonderful groups of gals there this month who were just singing our praises. (The largest even squeezed in NINE ladies and have figured out where to put a tenth gal next time!)

The workroom is fabulously lit for these cloudy overcast days, giving you plenty of light for your color choices and coordination…no need to worry, it’s always sunny inside!

I’m already getting calls for 2010, so if your thinking of getting together with your friends for some scrapping keep me in mind. As soon as you get your preferred dates together, give me a call and I’ll save a spot for you.

Busy times…

It’s been really crazy around here, lots going on, changes coming down the pike and we haven’t even started thinking about the holidays yet! Whew! I don’t know about you but I’m ready for a break. It’s been good though, here’s a peek at what my BFF Barbie & I did a couple of weekends ago…

Finished-project

This lovely project was the culmination of a Jane Timmer’s Finishing Workshop held in Keller TX. We received our patterns and materials to do the pre-stitching before the workshop so we’d be ready to learn the construction techniques. The whole weekend was so much fun, and because of Barbie’s super Priceline skills, we were able to stay at a really nice Micro-tel for just $38 a night, which made the weekend so much more enjoyable not having to drive back and forth to Waco.

The needle book turned out really lovely…

Needle-Book

Being a very inexperienced stitcher it was interesting to work on a piece that was not ‘symmetrical’ the Biscornu was much more comfortable since it was a square piece originally…

Biscornu

I’m not sure of the history behind the Biscornu, but I think it can be used for a pin cushion. It seems to get it’s name from the finished shape that it takes when two squares are stitched together with the corners in the middle of the straight segments. Very peculiar at first when stitching piece together, but then it seems to ‘fit’ nicely as you round the last corner.

The finishing of the needle book was much easier than I expected thanks in large part to a wonderful teacher, Jane Timmers. I’d definitely take another workshop of hers if she comes back to our area, I believe she is from Atlanta.

Needle-Book-Inside-Detail

Of course working with the Maderia fabrics was really wonderful, I have the strips from the Jelly Roll Tin and the fabrics to make the quilt that they were designed for and “one of these days” that will be another project!

Take a closer look at the top picture and you’ll see that she even taught us how to line the inside of the tin for a very finished look. We even twisted the cording with a hand drill. That was so easy you wouldn’t have believed it could be so simple. It makes all the difference when you have the correct tools!

Needle-Book-Cordnig-Detail

I couldn’t wait to use my Michael’s 40% off coupon to get one, now I just need to build the cup holder that is used to hook the thread onto the drill. I’ll show you that in a future post when I get it put together.

Well, I hope you’re having a great week! Mine’s looking much better since my cold/allergies are a little better. Thanks for stopping by.

See you around the corner!
Katherine
