Reading is such a joy!

One of the leisure time activities I truly enjoy is sitting down with a really good book…

In our current social climate of hurry up, super sonic fast internet connectivity, instant this, drive through that….

Sometimes,  just sitting quietly and reading a really good book is like feeling a soothing warm ray of sunlight on a dreary winter’s day.

The novel I recently finished was written by renowned author, Francine Rivers, and it was just such a book,  Leota’s Garden.

Leota's Garden

Regretably, in this day and age of divorced parents, displaced and dysfunctional families seem to be epidemic.  Ms. Rivers introduces us to just such a family whose members are  fraught with years of guilt, deliberate absence in each others lives, misunderstandings, hurt and blame.  In the midst of this cesspool of family dysfunction a young granddaughter decides it is time to introduce herself to her grandmother that she never knew.  The story is about their developing friendship and love as they work together in Leota’s Garden and the impact their relationship has on their extended family.

You will enjoy this wonderful story, as with all of Francine Rivers’ books, she is a talented writer and makes her characters come to life right off the pages of the novel. You may even find that you are inspired to recapture a lost relationship in your own life.

Leota’s Garden by Francine Rivers would be a wonderful book to put on your gift list for Valentine’s Day or your next Birthday!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re having a wonderful week, I’m still combating my annual cedar allergy malaise…March can’t come soon enough for me!

Blessings to you and your loved ones!

I just finished (at 3:30 a.m. Monday) this book I picked up a while ago when I was at Barnes and Noble with Addison (our 21 yo U of Ark Sophmore hunk) while he was on one of his few trips home…and words cannot adequately describe the wonder waiting for you in this novel.

One of my goals this year is to read more. I want to finish at least 6 books this year. Regreatably, I’ve gotten out of the habit of reading since I became a talk radio/internet/and Fox News junkie. So, I thought it high time to pick it up again.

Thanks, Addison, for the great recommendation! I found myself flying through the pages not wanting to put it down and finished the last half in the wee hours of Monday morning. (What with there being a full moon and all, sleep was scant anyway!) The story is about a dad who is lost in The Great Sadness and how he is helped to find his way through…that’s all I’m going to reveal, you’ll just have to dig on your own for the rest, and trust me you won’t be sorry you did!

Two other’s I’m working my way through, not quite so expeditiously, are Miracles of the American Revolution: Divine Intervention and the Birth of the Republic , by Larkin Spivey; and Persuasion by Jane Austin. In January I finished John Adams and was delighted when I received the Mini Series by PBS for Christmas. I am hoping to watch it over Spring Break.

I love having you stop by for my blog but don’t let the computer, TV or radio be a substitute for good literature. Blessings!
